Stolen Information in Air India data breach

The cyberattack compromised the data of all passengers who had registered with the Indian airline over the past decade, between August 26, 2011, and February 3, 2021. Air India said that it was first notified about the cyberattack by SITA on February 25th, 2021, but the nature of the data was only provided to it on March 25 and April 5. Also Read: Big Basket Data Breach: Information of 20 Million Users Now Available Online According to the latest updates, the stolen information includes personal details like passenger names, date of birth, passport information, credit card details, contact information, ticket information, Star Alliance, and Air India frequent flyer data. Thankfully, since CVV/CVC numbers of cards are secured and since they are not stored by the SITA PSS data processor, passengers are hopefully out of any trouble. Also, as per Air India, no password data has been leaked.

Are you a frequent Air India flyer?

Please change all account passwords especially if you have travelled via Air India in the recent few months. It is also safe to change or update passwords of internet banking and debit or credit card PINs. The airline carrier has also requested loyalists or members to replace their debit or credit card with a new one from their respective bank. Also, it’s advisable to keep a check on all transactions to ensure no unapproved transactions are happening.

Beware of customer care scams

 Do not divulge your credit card details to anyone. It is also advised not to share personal details with any customer care executive claiming to call from Air India.
